Born August 3, 1956 in Orange, NJ to Prof. Nicholas and Iwanna (Smishkewych) Freishyn-Chirovsky -- grew up in Newark, NJ Parish as 3rd of 4 sons.
Member of Plast, (Ukrainian Scouts) Chervona Kalyna (same group as Patriarch Lubomyr Cardinal Husar!)
Ph. B. Pontifical Urban University (Rome) and study at Ukrainian Catholic University (Rome); M.A. (Toronto); Ph.D. studies at the Univ. of Notre Dame (South Bend) and Pontifical S.Th.D. from the Univ. of St. Mary of the Lake (Mundelein).

Married Halyna Pawlyshyn (born Nov. 1, 1958) from Rochester, NY on June 7, 1979 in Toronto. Children: Sophia (1983), Alexander (1987). Halia is a teacher and a nurse.
Ordained Subdeacon June 8, 1979, Deacon June 10, 1979 by Bishop Isidore Borecky in Toronto. Ordained to the priesthood June 8, 1980 by Patriarch Josyf the Confessor Cardinal Slipyj in Castelgandolfo, Italy for the Archeparchy of L’viv and loaned to the Eparchy of Toronto. Currently incardinated in the Toronto Eparchy.

Ecclesiastical Assignments: Deacon, Assistant Pastor - Sts. Volodymyr and Olha (Chicago); Pastor – St. Joseph (Chicago); Pastor - Immaculate Conception (Palatine, IL); Diocesan Director of the Diaconate and of Religious Education, (St. Nicholas Eparchy of Chicago), Professor of Patristics and Eastern Christian Theology (Catholic Theological Union, Chicago); Director of the Sheptytsky Institute (Chicago, then Ottawa); Associate Pastor – St. John the Baptist Shrine (Ottawa); Professor, Sheptytsky Institute (Ottawa). Editor-in-Chief of Logos: A Journal of Eastern Christian Studies.
