This will be a very unique opportunity for a select group of people to learn from a master how to create icons according to the traditional canons of the Church. Fr. Damian will be taking from six to twelve students through the process, from the preparation of the board, application of linen and gesso, to the transfer of the image, the actual egg-tempera painting and gilding of the icon, all the way through to the blessing of the finished product. Forget your protestations that you do not have the artistic talent to write an icon. No previous artistic experience is required. Icon-painting is more about the accurate passing on of Holy Tradition than about art, although artistic ability is a great adjunct. But this is the opportunity of a lifetime. You can actually produce an icon under the guidance of a seasoned iconographer and excellent teacher, who will not only teach technique, but will open up for you the spirituality of the icon.
